Applications of optical diagnostics in supersonic flow

Abstract: In this talk, we will discuss the application of experimental measurement techniques to a range of supersonic flow problems. Schlieren, BOS and Particle Image Velocimetry approaches to measurement in compressible flow will be presented, focusing on the measurement of shock containing free-shear flows. The presentation will cover both the challenges of the initial data acquisition, as well as the validation and analysis for these complex flows.
